Steam Early Access Release Version (v0.0.18)
Neophyte is now out as early access on Steam! Thank you to everyone that's supported me so far.
Due to the logistics of obtaining and distributing Steam keys as a solo dev, I am afraid that no Steam keys will be provided for itch.io purchases made before or after the Steam release. However, the itch.io version will continue to be updated alongside the Steam version.
I've done my best to ensure that Neophyte is bug free but with more people playing I suspect some of you will find some. If so, please report any bugs via the ingame bug report feature or in my Discord.
There are far too many changes and additions since the last version to list so here are just a few:
- An additional arena with unique enemies
- More spells
- Dozens of new emblems
- Boss fights
- Challenge system (similar to Slay the Spire’s ascension system)
- Content unlock system
- Many other balance and quality of life changes.
I really hope you all enjoy the new and improved Neophyte!
Sincerely,
Max (Regal Pigeon)

The thing that's supposed to bring you back from death once failed to trigger when I was in Clock Room 3. It was really sad because I had a good run going.
no problem. i bought a steam copy anyways to show more support :)
apparently I bough Neophyte 204 days ago. Got some solid value out of the different updates so thanks a bunch!
Hmmm I've been gifted Steam keys by solo devs for years now so that excuse seems a bit lacking. I'll be buying the game in Steam since it's so cheap but I'm not really pleased with your explanation on why you couldn't just give keys to the people that bought it. Oh well, it is what it is I suppose.
what I wanted to post too. £2/$3 is not worth arguing over though so already bought a copy on Steam. Plus is a fun game and I don't mind throwing some more support for it.
Thanks for your post and for buying Neophyte. Out of curiosity, did those solo devs retroactively send a steam key? (i.e. game released on itch first, then steam release later, then gifted key for steam without another purchase)
Hey, I just wanted to send through this in case it might help you to figure this out. Looks like you just have to generate bulk keys on Steam and enter them into the "external download keys" page as shown here. Then itch automatically gives them out to users who click the "Get Steam Key" button on the game's page.
At the bottom there it says "If your game has been for sale on itch.io for a while before being on Steam those who have purchased it can go back to their download page and still get a key."
Good luck!
Hi, RegalPigeon, wanted to say that the game is really great - I bought it back when you released it initially - I wanted to ask whether I need to buy the game on steam as well to have it listed there, or can I somehow activate it? Cheers and I think you're following the right direction to developing a very kick-ass game.
Hi reido, sorry to say that no Steam keys will be provided for itch.io purchases made before or after the Steam release due to the logistics and limitations of being a solo dev (just edited the post to explain this). The itch version will always be up to date with the Steam version so you aren't missing any out on any content/features (except for steam achievements and cloud saves).
Thank you for your understanding.
